چکیده

The wedge and left atrial pressures were compared in 1'2 subjects with congenital and aequired heart disease; all experiments were carried out with closed chest under basal conditions. A poor correlation between the wedge and left atrial pressures was mnoted in over half the patients. The wedge pressure is especially inaccurate in mitral stenosis with marked elevations in left atrial pressure.

Effect of hypertrophy on left ventricular diastolic function in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

BACKGROUND.: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is characterized by asymmetric LV hypertrophy (LVH) and impairment in diastolic function. We assess the relationship between LVH and invasive indexes of diastolic function. METHODS.: 21 HCM patients underwent cardiac catheterization to assess pulmonary capillary wedge pressure, LV end-diastolic pressure (measured by microtip catheters), and LV vol...

Improved survival in ARDS patients associated with a reduction in pulmonary capillary wedge pressure.

The survival and ICU length of stay of 40 ARDS patients admitted to the ICU were analyzed to determine if a management strategy of lowering the pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (Ppw) was associated with an increased survival or a decreased ICU length of stay. ARDS was defined as three or four quadrant alveolar filling roentgenographically, a PaO2 less than 80 mm Hg with an FIO2 greater than ....

Evaluation of right ventriculoarterial coupling in pulmonary hypertension: a magnetic resonance study

Methods We included 139 patients undergoing CMR and right heart catheterization within 2 days (n=151 test pairs) for the evaluation of known or suspected pulmonary hypertension. Right ventricular end-systolic volume index (ESVI) and stroke volume index (SVI) were obtained, respectively, from cardiac cine images and phasecontrast of the pulmonary artery after adjusting for body surface area. Rig...

Pulmonary blood volume ratio response to exercise; a noninvasive determination of exercise-induced changes in pulmonary capillary wedge pressure.

To determine if changes in pulmonary capillary wedge pressure could be determined from the pulmonary blood volume (PBV) ratio response on exercise-gated blood pool images, 42 patients had simultaneous exercise-gated blood pool imaging and hemodynamic monitoring during cardiac catheterization. Nine patients were normal and 33 patients had cardiac disease. Changes in the PBV ratio were determined...

Shortened Doppler-derived mitral A wave deceleration time: an important predictor of elevated left ventricular filling pressure.

OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to investigate whether a new variable of mitral inflow, A wave deceleration time, identifies patients with elevated left ventricular filling pressures. BACKGROUND In patients with an elevated left ventricular end-diastolic pressure, the increase in left ventricular pressure after atrial contraction rapidly exceeds left atrial pressure, resulting in abrupt ...
